Stories from the Archives: Green Bay's Fire Department In-Person

David Siegel, retired Green Bay Metro Fire Department Lieutenant, will be discussing his research journey at the UW-Green Bay Archives and the stories he uncovered about the Green Bay Fire Department while researching his book Forces of Change: Events that Led to the Development of the Green Bay Fire Department, 1836-1895. In his book, Siegel examines the earliest history of the fire department. Drawing upon city council records held at the UW-Green Bay Archives, the author describes the transformation of the fire department. The research and writings provide a unique look at the early history of Green Bay and Fort Howard. The modernization history of the Green Bay Fire Department is directly tied to serious and significant fires, like Green Bay’s great fire of 1880.
